Culture Values
We Struggle for One Another
by Hill City
Series: Culture Values
These are our values that define the culture we are trying to build. These values apply to us both individually and corporately and we strive to live them out in our daily lives. This series is about unpacking these values to greater detail.
We STRUGGLE for One Another Because Unity is Our Identity.
Culture Value
Jesus and the New Testament writers had a lot to say about how we are to treat one another. 100 verses can be found with this term and 59 different commands. If we are going to truly live in a healthy Jesus community, we need to learn how to struggle for one another.
This is How We Struggle for One Another
With All Humility
Augustine wrote, “The first way [to truth] is humility, the second way is humility, and the third is humility. Life with Christ starts with humility.
“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” Galatians 4:1-2.
Humility simply acknowledges our many sins, limitations, and the fact that we may not be in the right, and it responds with, “I need Jesus, and I need other people.” Make it a regular practice to ask others for help and to pray for you. Be open and honest with who we are with others. Ask for forgiveness when you are wrong and give forgiveness, because you could be in their shoes.
Move Toward Others
Jesus first pursued us and we follow His example and pursue each other. We pursue people different from us and like us, we pursue people we disagree with and agree with.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1 Peter 4:8-9.
Because of Jesus you no longer look for the easiest person to talk to when people gather. Instead, you move toward the quieter ones, the new person, and the outliers. We a collective group we move toward each other. We are active in this process than passive, loving more than fearing rejections. Too often we are silent when we know of someone’s troubles. Take Jesus’ example and greet warmly, learn someone’s name, ask questions, and listen to get to know someone’s story.

We FOCUS on Jesus in everything we do.

We STRUGGLE for one another because unity is our identity.

1

We LIVE the
Gospel always because Jesus seeks to save.

We GROW  individually because we want to make an impact.

We LEAD in generosity because Jesus was so generous to us.

We MULTIPLY ourselves because multiplication starts movements.

We TAKE risks in faith to do what we are called to do.

We CHOOSE hope and joy because life is too hard to not.
